Solve battery drain issues?
#1
Hi,

I'm not sure if a post for this has been made before, I'd like to ask where do you supply power for the raspberry, so it's not constantly on and draining the battery overnight?
I have installed it in an E38.

Thanks and Best Regards!

there are multiple aproaches for that:
- controlled shutdown/power up
- ups for the pi
- and i am pretty sure some more

all have advantages and disadvantages ... it all depends on what your goal is.

my will be that i dont want the pi to be powered up.
i will use the VA (VerbraucherAbschaltung aka 15 min pin, not sure how the pin is called in english, it basically is a wake up pin, powers up when car is unlocked and powered down after like 15 min of idle time).

i hope this helps a bit ;-)

There is a red/yellow consumer wire that is usually connected to your interiorights, check your trunk lights for the red/yellow wire. Like maggus said its powered up from the get go and powers down 15min after locking the car.

I dont recommend using the consumer wire for heavy load, instead use a relais and get the power directly from the battery, dont forget to put a fuse in it.
