here is the procedure if someone wants to intervene, i'm new to linux, so forgive me if i make mistakes.
- install an img for example v19 or other all works.
- add / opt / vc / src and / opt / vc / include from another distribution; by examle stetch
- install x11 osmc depuit "https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/testing-x11-simple-desktop-chromium-web-browser-in-a-simple-installer-for-stretch/16846"
-sudo apt-get install git build-essential
- cloned androidauto depuit "https://github.com/humeman/openauto-patched-installer"
;on openauto installer it tells you if you want to install on rasbian answer "n"
- add with nano /home/osmc/.xsessionrc
STARTUP =
save and quit
- add with nano /home/osmc/.Xsession
startlxde &
sudo /home/osmc/openauto/bin/autoapp
save and quit
then unistall ligth-locker so that it does not block the screen
  from xsession
now can start android auto from kodi and return to kodi when leaving androidauto
rest to adjust ibus.

tried to follow your steps, but the openauto-patched-installer returned lot of errors.

hi harry

did you add / opt / vc / include and / opt / vc / src
I will redo a redaction
I am a mechanic and I do automotive programming.and I follow the owner of an E39 530D fase2 with a bm54 and MK4 update V32, with some mechanical and software upgrades.
I drive it every day.

see prosidure stap by stap
1- install the image; I preffair v8.7. because kodi 17 does not master much time to stop. and type
sudo apt-get update
NB dont upgrade
2- from rasbian stretch copy /opt/vc/include and /opt/vc/src to a usb key named for example STORAGE
3- I use "BvSshClient" easier than PUTTY,
introduce the usb key and type:
sudo mv /media/STORAGE/include /opt/vc
sudo mv /media/STORAGE/src /opt/vc
4- install git and build-essential:
sudo apt-get install git build-essential
5-- install X11 osmc. "https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/testing-x11-simple-desktop-chromium-web-browser-in-a-simple-installer-for-stretch/16846" you may not install chromium
if you didn't need it
6- clone open auto:
if openauto installer offers installation on rasbian answer
"n"
then it offers installation on rpi3. answer "y"
if you are using rpi4 then follow the steps below:
7- then type:
sudo nano /home/osmc/.xsessionrc and type in this one
STARTUP =
ctrl + x then y then enter
8 - type:
sudo nano /home/osmc/.Xsession and type in this one
x-window-manager &
sudo / home / osmc / openauto / bin / autoapp
ctrl + x then y then enter
9- open /home/osmc/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart and add at the beginning:
@xset b off &
@xset s off &
@xset s noblank &
ctrl + x then y then enter
in / home / osmc / openauto / assets
there are icons of androidauto if you want to modify the starting image of x11
in: /home/osmc/x11-start/x_init.sh
- in: /home/osmc/x11-start/xstart.sh
I suggest using
sudo su -c “sudo systemctl stop mediacenter & sudo pkill kodi.bin” &
instead of:
sudo su -c "xbmc-send -a" Quit "| sudo systemctl stop mediacenter" &
because its minimizes the closing time kodi.
and voila, there is still some button mapping from:
sudo nano / usr / share / X11 / xkb / keycodes / evdev
I am not yet done with my bus communication problem
- let me know if it worked for you

hi harry
I was able to make it work / dev / ttyUSB0 with pibus, the problem was to connect the interface before configuring pibus.
now androidauto works with pibus and return to kodi if you leave AA.
but there are two other problems;
harry,
1-how to follow GPIO with pibus and / dev / ttyUSB0
2-the ibuscomunicator does not work with pibus / dev / ttyUSB0
NB: I started pibus with "crontab"; "-g0 / dev / ttyUSB0
a little push please

the problem is that if I run pibus I lose the BC function in kodi
